The archaeological area of Siris
Heraclea is located in the municipality of Policoro in the province of Matera. The site is characterized by the remains of the two Greek colonies founded one (Heraclea) on the ruins of the other (Siris) and stands on a hill located between the mouth of the Agri river and that of the Sinni river. The remains of the city of Siris, still visible today in the archaeological park, are a mud brick fortification and small sacred areas.
